Big Hook Wilderness Camps Fishing
Last week 6-2 thru 6-9 fishing was great for the outposts and main camp here at Big Hook Wilderness Camps. Guests reported great action at all of the lakes. 40"+ pike were caught at Central, Cocos, and West Lake. West Lake also boasted a beefy 30" walleye. Water temps are beginning to warm up. Central is registering between 58-61 degree surface temps. Weather is going to be warm this week so the water should heat up quick. Warm water should really invigorate both species appetite's. Hot lures this last week were: white spinner baits with willow blades and 3/8 yellow jigs. Believe it or not but pike have already been hitting topwater buzz baits.
I mentioned this before but I posted some vids on Youtube, more to come.
Here is a link for them:

June 9th-16th Week in review
Weather held up great the past week at Big Hook. Warm temperatures heated up the water temps into the mid 60's on the surface.
This weeks highlights include:
South Lake boated and released several trophy walleye. A 30, 29, 27 inch respectively.
Central boated the largest northern of the week at 43 1/2".
Cocos Lake caught a 28" walleye. The water levels dropped about a foot allowing guests to shoot the rapids and navigate into the Sagawitchewan River.
Burnt boasted thirty northerns bewtween 30-40", with the largest topping out at 41".
West guests claimed the best action was in the "Fish Bowl" (southern part of the lake).
Southwest guests quoted "they caught more fish than ever before." The Surr brothers stated they used every lure in their tackle box and had great results on every single one.
Favourable guest claimed the fishing was too easy, I can never see that as a problem. Many 20+" walleyes reported and several 35"+ northerns.
Another great week overall.

Fishing Update
Sorry everyone for not posting lately I have been at the outpost for the past two weeks and haven't been able to access the internet. Fishing has been productive lately, although some mayflies have thrown a wrench into the fishing gears so to speak.
Highlights lately:
Had fun last week at Favourable Lake caught a bunch of pike between 35-38 1/2 and a nice 27 inch walleye, unfortunately we had to battle some wind.
SW got a beautiful 41" pike.
Cocos gave us a huge list of pike between 35-40", mostly caught on doctor spoons. I have been fishing there for the last two days with the Gordon party and boated a nice 39" fat fat pike yesterday along with tons of walleye under the rapids.
South got a number of walleye between 25-30 3/4" walleye.
West is still producing amazing amounts of fish from the fish bowl in the southern portion of the lake.
Central Lake's fish have started to move towards the reefs and weedbeds. Water temps are still very cool, holding around 61 degrees on the surface. Got some great pics coming from the guests. I'll post them I soon as I get them.
Good luck on the water everyone,

Another week past and many fishing stories to tell. Quite possibly too many to list in a blog such as this. I spent most of thw eek fishing Central with a number of guests. Unfortunately, the mayflies decided to schedule their hatch last Monday. With millions of mayflies spread about the surface of the lake one would expect to see the fishing slow down. This week was truly productive. Yesterday, to be honest, it appeared the walleyes were full of mayflies and a bit sparse. However, some great fish were caught and released here at Central. 2) 40", 38", 37" and many 35"-30" pike were caught and released. It appears pike are now holding in their typical summer patterns. The water temps are still pretty cool though. Walleye are now in transition away from rapids and moving onto rocky points and shoals. I'll post a report for the outposts when I get some word of mouth from the guests today.
Hot lures at Central this week:
Pike
-orange bladed black skirted bucktail
-Johnson silver minnow
-Delong Eel
Walleye
-pink twister tail
-berkley gulp
-rapala suspending shad rap blue/silver

Looking for update
Nathan
I see were some people are reporting that the fishing on lakes
in the lower part of Ontario are not living up to prior years
standards. The lakes are extremelly high and weather has
been bad, lots of rain and wind.
How has the weather been around the Big Hook lakes?
How is the fishing compared to prior years, particularly
South Lake?
Are lake levels UP?
Any Fires warning up there?

Wally
Wally,
The weather just this last week has finally turned around. We are starting to see some temps in the 80'S and calling for 90'S next week. If we don't get rain during these high temps, I could foresee the MNR placing a fire ban on the northern part of the province. The lake levels have now returned to about normal. South Lake is still the walleye producer and actually some really nice pike have been caught and released. There have been a number 30" walleye caught and released, I think the largest is 31 3/4" so far. The beginning of this week we had pretty slow fishing due to a mayfly hatch, but yesterday all the camps reported excellent numbers of fish. I believe the fish have finally digested and are turning hungry again. Are you going to be coming to South Lake this year? I'll keep you posted.
