Fav Lake Fishing

Nathan,

Thanks for the update, just hope the weather cools down.   Hopefully I'll be seeing you on the way to Fav next Saturday.
Would appreciate knowing which "marked" spots on my map  are the better "deep" fishing areas so we can start there. I'm guessing the fishing below the rapids won't be so good
and fish will be more on main lake points and deep weeds.

Surprised

Well after a week of blazing heat, one would imagine the fish would dive to deeper cooler waters.  On the contrary, most fish (and the best fishing as a matter of fact) was from 6-12 ft.  Sooner or later I suspect the fish to dive with the water.
Great reports from all the camps this week.  Thankfully the fish balked at the immense heat wave we endured.
Top catches this week:
Favourable: tons of fish and caught a beautiful 8 pd walleye within a stones throw from the dock.
SW: once again the  fish factory and the Fleener grandsons were the fishing champs of the week
South: many many many walleye between 24-27 inches
West: awesome fishing on the rock right in front of the camp.
Central: 110 walleye in one spot within 2 1/2 hrs says enough
Burnt: 38 walleye in 14 minutes means the fish are biting!
Cocos: A long long list of many trophy pike caught and released and some incredible moose sitings.

A Great Day

Yesterday on Central Lake, simply put,  was a great day.  Weather was sub-par, mist/rain and some cool winds howling out of the north, but that didn't bother us at all.  Everyone in the boat was smiling ear to ear careless of the water dripping down their backs.  Walleye fishing was off the charts, fish were hanging on reefs in about 17 feet of water to as deep as 21 feet.  I lost track of the walleye count at around 120 fish.  Lots of fish measured out between 18-21 inches.  Pike were also slamming lures on the shallower rock reefs and weedbeds.  In one spot we boated and released, 41", 38", 31" pike.  In another a 39" and 34 1/2".   So all in all, get your jigs with berkley gulp for walleye and skirted bucktails for the pike and you can't go wrong.  Good luck on the water everyone.

Last week brought the weather.  Winds and rain blanketed us just about every day.  The walleye's were biting but you really had to have your finger on the trigger.  The bite was so light most times you wouldn't realize a fish was even on the line.  Many fish were caught in about 16' to 23'.  Pike were also hanging around the reefs and suspending in deep water.  I didn't get a chance to chat with all of the outposts but here are some highlights:
- Favourable Lake caught many northern between 35"-40".
-Cocos did really well for walleye, even caught a 27" pitching for northern in the weeds.
-South caught and released 15 walleye between 25-30".
-Central Lake caught a ton of walleye in the 18-21" and several pike between 33"-36".

Hot lures;
Pike
-orange bladed black skirted bucktail
-johnson silver minnow
-doctor spoon silver
Walleye
-3/8 oz jig head (white, chartreuse, pink)
-berkley gulp (orange, pumkinseed, pink)
-crawler harnesses yellow blade, florescent orange
-rattle trap (silver and blue)
Take care and good luck on the water everyone.

Gator Time!

The pike, let me rephrase that, the BIG pike have begun their fall feed.  Many many large northerns (35 inches +)  were reported last week from the camps.  Although, I should mention the trophy pike fisherman (or WOMAN in this case) of the week, was Judy who visited us at Central Lake.  She managed to out fish everyone, including myself (takes a lot for a guide to say that, we are a proud bunch).  The pike were drawn to her lures, mostly the Johnson Silver minnow with a white twister trailer (*hint hint* to everyone who is coming up next year!).  After boating the largest fish of her life, a beautiful 37" incher on Sunday. She proceeded to increase her trophy size as the week progressed.  A 38 1/2" came on Tuesday and she finished the week with a GRAND 42" fat pike.  So hats off to ya Judy, hope to see you beat your totals next year.
I have high hopes for pike fishing this week.  Guests that just arrived today (Robin and Dan) boated 7 pike over 31 inches topping out at 37".
Take care everyone and good luck on the water this fall.

The Pike Bite

The end of the season is coming fast for us here at Big Hook Wilderness Camps.  Temperatures and weather are becoming unstable.  The walleye's have sunk to waters 30 ft +.  However, the major news this past week was the pike bite.  Pike seemed to be everywhere and incredibly  aggressive.  Central Lake caught 20 pike between 31-41" last week.  Most fish were holding in weedbeds, however the 41" pike was caught in 30 ft of water jigging for walleyes.  Once again bucktails and johnson silver minnows were the top baits.

Water temps are still very cool, holding around 61 degrees on the surface.  Got some great pics coming from the  guests.  I'll post them I soon as I get them.
Good luck on the water everyone.

Regards

Green
